Advantages of Cathofast Over Coconut Shell:
Exceptionally Low sulphur level, ideal for S.G Iron production. Low sulphur and stable carbon distribution can effectively reduce the poisonous effect of sulphur in spheroidizing the cast-iron.
High Carbon Pick-Up upto 95-97% which is more than Coconut charcoal whose pick-up is 40-50%.
No fumes and flames during addition of CarboFast as percentage of volatile matter is less than 1%, where as in Charcoal due to presence of excessive ash, sticky lumps of excessive slag are regularly formed.
Unlike CarboFast , Charcoal contains lot of moisture and ash which disturbs the chemical composition/microstructure of S.G. Iron. CarboFast has 0.05% moisture and only 0.25% Ash.
Dissolution of CarboFast takes place at low temperature and thus saves 10% of electric power/energy and time. Coconut Shell charcoal requires higher temperature for dissolution. Hence, Charcoal requires lot of electric power and time to dissolute in the liquid melt.
